Portfolio Breakdown
Within the Victorian Youth Parliament program, we have 7 portfolios that work collaboratively throughout the program to support 135 young people, with the collective goal of amplifying the voice of young people in State Parliament, in turn changing the lives of Victorian citizens.
- Parliamentary Training | This portfolio works closely with our Youth Parliamentarians, mentoring them to create a piece of proposed legislation (a Bill), ensuring that Youth Parliamentarians are also equipped to debate their Bills and participate in parliamentary procedures during the sitting week.
- Media & Communications | This portfolio works closely with our Youth Parliamentarians throughout the Bill development process and into the Week of Youth Parliament, ensuring that Youth Parliamentarians are equipped to engage with stakeholders and media, furthering the reach of their Bill.
- Youth Press Gallery | This portfolio works closely with our Youth Press Gallery journalists, overseeing the support of 10-15 young journalists to develop journalistic skills and cover the sitting week.
- Participant Logistics | This portfolio works closely with our Youth Parliamentarians and Youth Press Gallery journalists to ensure that all participant logistical and welfare matters are attended to during the duration of the program.
- Recreation (Wreck) | This portfolio works closely with our Youth Parliamentarians and Youth Press Gallery journalists delivering fun, skill building sessions for participants, aimed at developing a sense of community and belonging within the program.
- Taskforce Support | This portfolio works closely with the Program Director and Youth Governor to ensure that all Taskforce needs are met from the moment they are accepted onto the program. They support all Taskforce to achieve their desired goals within the program and work with them to continually develop their personal and professional capabilities.
- Youth Governor | The Youth Governor is an elected position on the program, and is a member of Taskforce. They act as the face of the program, often raising the profile of the program in the media and at distinguished events. Youth Parliamentarians, Youth Press Gallery journalists and Taskforce vote for the Youth Governor at the conclusion of the sitting week and they serve as the Youth Governor for the following year’s program.
