First, we take a look back at the many changes in the police force over the last few decades, such as community policing, policing standards, procedures, as well as police and technology. Then we discuss some of the recent Police Victoria programs and initiatives which focused on new ways to respond to youth crime and support vulnerable young people.
Topics covered
- Policing through the decades
- Relationships between the community and police
- Police youth programs
- Policing and culturally diverse communities
- Moomba riots 2016: police response
- Bourke street tragedy 2017: police response
We took the perspective that we could actually change the narrative in the long-term - As long as we took enough people along, to do enough things, and to engage enough people to try and listen and understand what the real problems were…..So essentially, we flipped our approach to understanding that it's not just police that can fix it.
